James does a fantastic job of pacing this story, and there's never a dull moment or a wasted word. He brings laughter, tenderness, tears, and bloodshed to the page with ease and mighty skill. For those who like action, this book has plenty.

James weaves the story to supervene Betsy DuBonnet as she heads West, armed only with thinkable, courage, in search of her mother.
